Overall
Generalised inflammation and infection of tonsils by Beta haemolytic streptococcus.
Tonsils are situated both side of behind of you throat.
Tonsillitis common in children and adoloscense.
TYPE
- Acute tonsillitis ( commonest type)
- Acute parenchymatous
- Acute follicular
- Chronic tonsillitis
- Chronic parenchymatous
- Chronic fibrotic
CAUSES
Usually most of time tonsillitis occurs by common virus but sometimes bacteria(group A streptococcus) also causes tonsillitis
SYMPTOMS
- Sore throat
- Fever
- Malasia
- Difficult to swallowing or _Dysphagia_ both solid and liquid food
- Headache
- Earache
- Bad breath
- Yellowish white spot noted on tonsils
- Stiffness of neck
Diagnosis
INVESTIGATION
- On clinical examination- the tonsils are noted enlarged bilaterally
- Also noted In follicular type the enlarged tonsils are filled with multiple white yellowish spot
Treatment
AT HOME–
1.rest
2.Gargle with salt water
3.Drink more water
MEDICATION–
If the infection is viral then antibiotics will not work but if from bacterial infection penicillin is given orally
SURGERY–
tonsillectomy- surgical removal of the tonsil
