CAUSATION
• Aspiration of septic materi

• During anaesthesia

• Infection – Staphylococcus, anaerobic organism

• Rupture of empyma
• Rupture of liver abscess

SYMPTOMS
• Fever with chill and rigor
• Fever comes down with profuse sweating
• Severe cough with copious foul smelling sputum
• Breathlessness
• Haemoptysis
• Weakness
• Lethargy
• Weight loss
• Clubbing – Rapidly developing even 4P within 14days
• Anaemia present

COMPLICATIONS
• Empyema
• Cerebral abscess with pneumonic complication
• Bronchiectasis
• Gangrene of lung
