Overall
When kidney gets damaged and unable to do normal function is called kidney disease. Kidney disease occurs acutely is called acute kidney disease (AKD).
Kidneys are bean shaped excretory organ. It is situated in the posterior (back side) to abdomen. It is a extra peritoneal (Outside of the peritoneam, within abdomen) organ.
SYMPTOMS
Sign and symptoms may vary depending upon the degree of disease involved.
- Shortness of breath
- Swelling in under eye,leg
- Chest pain
- Less urine output
- Fatigue
- Confusion
- Rash, itching
- Seizures
- Back pain
- Loss of appetite
CAUSE
Due to lesser blood flow–
- Burn
- Injury
- Shock
- Major surgery
- Dehydration
- Glomerulonephritis
Due to clotting–
- Scleroderma
- Malignant hypertension
- Hemolysis
- Idiopathic thrombocytopenic thrombotic perpura
Due to infection–
- Acute pyelonephritis
- Severe septicemia
Due to misscellaneous-
- Severe septicemia
- Urinary tract obstruction
- Alcohol toxicity

- Urine test
- Blood test
- USG(ultrasonography)
- CT Scan
- Biopsy
Treatment
TREATMENT
- If the cause is dehydration then your doctor will recommend intravenous (IV) fluid.
- Some medicine to control blood potassium. Your doctor may prescribe glucose,calcium, these will reduce accumulated potassium in the blood
- If calcium level drop down then doctor will prescribe calcium.
- You may need dialysis to filter blood. It will remove toxins and excreted material from blood.
