DENTAL CYST is most common of all ODONTOMES.
ODONTOMES are the cysts, malformation arising from dental epithelium or mesothelium resulting in swelling of the jaw. Three ODONTOMES have been given
- DENTAL CYST
- DENTIGEROUS CYST
- ADAMANTINOMA
Dental cyst arising in relation with dental epithelium. It occurs under the root of dead or infected erupted teeth, within the gum, around impacted wisdom teeth, in your maxillary sinus or within the jaw bone.
TYPES
Dental cyst is the most common cyst of all odontomes. It’s has various name like
Radicular cyst
Periapical cyst
Apical cyst
Periodontal cyst
Root end cyst.
CAUSES
- Usually it occurs under the root of dead or infected erupted teeth
- Hereditary
- Improper way a teeth grown
- Cyst can occurs around the crowns of buried teeth
- If wisdom teeth are impacted
SYMPTOMS
- Smooth painful swelling over the jaw of the affected area of tooth
- It is usually occurs in adult age, common in women
- It is usually painless
- Commonly effects the upper jaw
- when swelling enlarge in the maxillary region resulting in deformity of the face
- Breathing problem and sleeplessness occur due to sinus issue
- Fever
- Chewing problem
Diagnosis
INVESTIGATION
- When you notice any symptoms of dental cyst consult with dentist
- Orthopantogram (OPG)
Finding – A circular radio translucent area will be seen under affected tooth
- Presence of caries tooth with expansion of maxilla
- Aspiration of the cyst demonstrates cholesterol cyst
- Confirmation of cyst diagnosis – Tissue sample taken during surgical removal of the lession
- Intra oral periapical ( IOPA) x-ray
Treatment
TREATMENT
- Maintain you oral hygiene
- Clean your teeth regular very gently
- Excision of cyst
- Extraction of tooth
- Endodontic Therapy – Here surgical removal of cyst if the cyst associated with an infected root canal
TREATING ORAL CYST AT HOME:
- Maintain your oral hygiene
- Brushing after every meal
- Flossing at least once a night
- Do not rupture the cyst on your own. This could lead to serious infection
